Baker Mayfield named the starter for the Cleveland Browns and the fans are going crazy!
Head coach Hue Jackson has officially announced that rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield will start Week 4 against the Oakland Raiders.
“I informed the team this morning that we are going to start Baker Mayfield,” Jackson said.
Quarterback Tyrod Taylor went down with a concussion in Week 3 against the New York Jets. Mayfield entered the game in relief and led the team to a comeback victory. He completed 17-of-23 passes for 201 yards.

After watching film and reflecting on the performance, Jackson was just as impressed with what he had witnessed.
“It was as good as I thought live. He made some tremendous throws. Obviously, he was able to move the team. Played with some rhythm. Got the ball into the playmakers hands and gave them chances to make plays. There are some things that he has to clean up obviously. We can’t have the ball out on the ground. There are some progression things that we will work through. Overall for his first game out under the lights in that environment in that situation, he handled all of that extremely well and played well,” Jackson said Friday.
Veteran offensive guard Joel Bitonio saw a lot of positives in the performance as well.
“It was awesome. He came in after we were struggling a little bit in the first half and rejuvenated the offense. He got us moving a little bit. He got us some points before half. He came back in the second half and led some drives for us. His energy was awesome. He took care of the ball and did some good things out there.”
