Eric Striker and Charles Tapper have been active defenders thus far. They just haven’t been the overpowering pass rushers that so many figured they would be. Tapper is sharing snaps with several reserves, as defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery works to keep his players fresh and to give younger players seasoning. Striker is being asked to drop off the line of scrimmage and run with slot receivers occasionally. So there are reasons for the two stars’ relatively low numbers.
At any rate, you sense breakout games are fast-approaching for both. They could come against Tennessee blockers on Saturday night who haven’t experienced the likes of Striker or Tapper in the first two weeks of the season.
